Buck Bragunier Leadership Award, Pat Kelly, and Jim Loiselle Impact Service Award Scholarships
These scholarships are named in honor of three of our truly great San Diego Chapter AFCEANS. Selected students must have strong academics, a record of leadership, extracurricular activities, and volunteer service activities both in their school and in their community. The three $2,000 scholarships are each awarded to one competitively selected graduating high school student who will attend an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Candidates must be residents of San Diego County, have a minimum grade point average of 3.8, and be majoring in science, technology, math, or engineering curriculums.
Completed application packets must be received online via email sent to Gloria McKearney, Scholarship Chair, at gloria.mckearney2@gmail.com by June 2, 2025. Applications received after that date will not be considered. Applicants are responsible for the completeness and timeliness of their submissions. Selections and notifications will be made by July 15th, 2025. Checks will be distributed by August 12, 2025.
2023-24 Buck Bragunier Leadership Award
The San Diego County Buck Bragunier Leadership Scholarship was established to honor Buck’s memory and unique contributions to the San Diego Chapter of AFCEA. Buck devoted over 20 years to AFCEA and the San Diego military community.
- The winner of the Buck Bragunier 2023-24 Leadership Scholarship is Nolan Franklin from Rancho Bernardo High School. Nolan will major in material engineering at UCLA.
2023-24 Pat Kelly Impact Service Award
The Pat Kelly Impact Service Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $2,000 awarded to a graduating high school student who has had the greatest impact in the community through volunteer work.
- The winner of the Pat Kelly Impact Service Scholarship is Piper Brentnall from Scripps Ranch High School. Piper will major in Environmental Analysis at Scripps College.
2023-24 Jim Loiselle Impact Service Award
The Jim Loiselle Impact Service Scholarship is a one-time scholarship of $2,000 awarded to a graduating high school student who has had the greatest impact in the school and community through volunteer work.
- The winner of the Jim Loiselle Impact Service Scholarship is José Aspericueta from Montgomery Senior High School. José will major in Biochemistry at UCLA.
